Called to Serve...

I don’t know about you—but the sermon delivered by Pastor Damon Hendrickson during alumni weekend struck I nerve with me. Sitting in the balcony listening to this young man preach about Jesus’s call for you and I to serve Him by following His example is both powerful and compelling. He called each of us to somehow go beyond our individual comfort zones into authentic service! To be on fire for our Lord!

But then we go home… into our comfortable homes for a wonderful Sabbath meals with probably with family and friends. And while the sermon provides fodder for Sabbath afternoon’s conversation, somehow by Monday morning—our call to serve is little more than a vague memory rather than an urgent call for service!! Oh—you and I know we’re called to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, help the poor…but in our busy schedules it’s all that we can do to care for our families and do our jobs. And so we maybe we write a check or try to pray more but somehow our call to service never actually translates into action... Read more
