Death Announcement of Pr. John Luga Wani

The Uganda Union of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, with deep sorrow, announces the passing of Pr. John Luga Wani, President and Archbishop Emeritus of the Uganda Union Mission. Pr. Wani rested peacefully on the night of November 30, 2024, in Kampala, at the age of 82. A devoted servant of God, his life was marked by unwavering faith, servant leadership, and a profound impact on the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda. His legacy of faith and dedication will remain deeply impressed in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.

Pr. Wani’s journey of service began as a local church pastor in Jinja, where his passion for ministry and commitment to Christ were evident. His exemplary leadership led to his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Eastern Uganda Field in Kamonkoli, a role he fulfilled from 1994 to 1996, further advancing the mission of the church.

In 1997, Pr. Wani was called to serve as Executive Secretary of the Uganda Union Mission, a role he held until 2000. Recognizing his steadfast leadership and devotion, the East-Central Africa Division elected him President of the Uganda Union Mission, where he served with distinction until 2009.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire Seventh-day Adventist community. May the hope of the resurrection bring comfort and strength to all during this time of deep loss.

We will honor and celebrate Pr. John Luga Wani’s life through a series of Funeral services. The first service will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Kampala Central Church, Gaddafi Road, opposite LDC at 10:00 am. A second service will follow on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Jinja Central Church. Pr. Wani will be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in Jinja Budondo, at 2pm as we await the blessed hope of Christ’s return.
